Description: | A broad flat double-edged blade with four fullers in the upper half of blade on each side. Blade was welded together with another piece of iron near the half of blade length (at time of use). Characteristic iron basket-hilt (loose) with numerous flattened and engraved leaf-shaped branches and a single rear-quillon, swept towards the obverse side, inner thumb-ring, octagonal flat stylised cat´s head pommel made from iron with central boss on each side . A leather-covered wooden grip (probably original) with spiral binding. Italy circa 1600, length 35in. (90cm). Shallow surface corrosion throughout. Condition 3 |
